Equações possíveis, 2016-2018
Equações possíveis [Possible Equations] is a work that consists of the appropriation of the first edition of the book “Experiência no 2”, from 1931, by the Brazilian artist Flávio de Carvalho (1899-1973), which presents his “performance” carried out in the Corpus Christi procession on the streets of the city of São Paulo, walking against the flow of the procession and wearing a cap, and in which he was almost lynched by a possessed and aggressive mass of people of faith.
In these times marked by ebbs of violent censorship and conservatism, in Equações possíveis a simple gesture in the face of the radicality of Flávio de Carvalho's attitude, the book that presents his experience is placed on a Bible holder purchased in one of the numerous Christian stores proliferating in “charismatic renewal” of selling of religious items and souvenirs.
