Thiago Honório
1979, Carmo do Paranaíba
Lives in São Paulo

CV

The complexity of Thiago Honório's creative process materializes in a production marked by a variety of influences, distinct temporalities, and a mix of artistic movements, authors, and multiple areas of knowledge. His production takes shape through meticulous planning, often executed through projects with a high degree of detail, resulting in works where the unpredictable gives way to refined material precision.

Similar to film editing, the artist uses the artifice of juxtaposing disparate elements, resulting in works with an apparent harmony: like an abstract pattern composed of numerous worn sandpapers; the facsimile of the book Pau Brasil by Oswald de Andrade pierced by a wooden stake of the same species as the title; or a cube of mirrors containing a roca head image (holy or religious statuette) from the 18th century on its top. The elements arranged by the artist not only compose the materiality of the works but also their textuality, situating them in a context where authenticity resides in the ability to articulate and rearrange existing references and materials.

The artist held solo exhibitions at Luisa Strina in 2017 and 2023. In 2017, with the exhibition Solo, he continued his investigation into the use of Baroque roca image, as well as the mix with elements of vernacular construction. Oração, held in 2023, explored the relationship between the gallery's architecture and the viewer's perception, transmuting the exhibition space into a living text—a prayer—where multiple works echoed between intervals and silences.

Honório holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from UNESP (2000) and a Master's and Doctorate in Visual Arts from the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (2006/2011). Additionally, he participated in the Independent Program of the Escola São Paulo – PIESP, from 2013 to 2014.
