Entre, 2008-2010




                “Entre” was installed on one of the walls of the room on the upper floor of Galeria Virgílio, on the occasion of the “Corte” exhibition. Unlike the type of circular dynamics that the exhibition dealt with, it was the only one positioned laterally. The viewer came across the work “Enter”, a pair of beef cattle horns affixed to the wall, shortly after climbing the stairs and reaching the room on the second floor, Studies.

                 This is a clear example of those works that appear as types of spatial beacons at the very moment of assembling the exhibition and that end up having their strength when they are in relationship with everything else around them.

                By this I mean that “Entre”, unlike some works that request a certain insertion and that are introduced as types of epicenters in the context of an exhibition, perhaps marks a more peripheral presence. I do not claim that the wall, in this case, was simply taken as a passive support, but rather that it starts to present itself as a field activated by the horns that suggest punctuation, graphic signs such as parentheses, quotation marks, brackets, keys.

                As had occurred in Viravolta and Vis-à-vis, the height studied for installing “Entre” on the wall was that which would approximately reach the waist of a visitor of average height. This decision regarding the height of its fixation on the wall is decisive for this work. If Viravolta and Vis-à-vis “cut” part of the spectator's body through reflections, from the waist down, at the height of sex, the work “Entre”, also positioned at waist height, alluded to something like a belt, an adornment, a ritual garment associated with that part of the body.
